don’t clap for these two smoothies….

it looks like the swindlers from enron are on the way to the slammer with some very heavy duty time to be spent.

the media and others are cheering the lead federal prosecutors, leslie caldwell and andrew weissman for doing the deed.  hold it.

these two opportunists seized upon this case not to bring retribution to the largest business swindlers in the history of mankind, but to feather their own nests.  it is for that reason they both get the “hey abbott award” for this week.

les and andy both came to the enron prosecuting circus with the intention of getting as much publicity for themselves as possible.  they did just that.

both of them were formerly prosecutors in the federal eastern district which covers the three boroughs of new york city, queens, brooklyn and staten island along with nassau and suffolk counties on long island.  les and andy did such a good job that you still have to wade through the drug dealers, the corporate swindlers and just about the highest crime rate of any area in the united states.  come to think of it, did the two of them actually do anything while they were here?

by the way, by the time the enron trial ended, les had jumped shipped and gone off into more lucrative endeavors.  it was sort of like the captain of the ship taking off in the middle of a cruise.

the department of justice for whom les and andy worked is a pretty poor operation considering the growing civil and criminal crime in the united states.  about the only thing it seems to do these days is tap phones and it doesn’t do that too well.

there has been absolutely no public accounting of the money spent by les and andy on the enron trial.  there has been no public accounting for the time they and their staffs spent on the enron trial.

the people who ran enron were bad folks.  almost all of their employees knew they were on a phony ride and just went along with the high pay, the expense account and the big bonus.

the bottom line of this story is that enron made lots of money, the department of justice spent lots of money and the united states taxpayer was once again screwed by corporate america and government.
